“Cancer is in out lives, it’s in all our lives, whether we’ve got it or whether we’ve not,” Inverell Daffodil Day organiser Louise Barnes said.
The cuddly bears offered each year are a soft reminder of the seriousness of the disease which affects every Australian in some way.
Louise said a purchase of the day’s annual gifts and new-release bears does more than build a collection.
“It’s just showing the support for those who have it, that you’re not alone,” she said.
The desirable bears, pens, badges, and the lovely bright, yellow blossoms and can be found at Big W, IGA, outside Best and Less. Volunteers will be carrying the merchandise and raffle tickets to offices and shops in the Inverell CBD, McLean, Inverell Hospital, the industrial area.
Louise said she was happy to learn this year the Cancer Council has embarked on three initiatives: partnering with a hotel group for accommodation for cancer families; assistance with travel; and funds to give cancer patients or carers respite workers to help in the home.
This year offers several raffle prizes, mostly targeting families.
The gifts include a unique piece of Australian art by local Geoff Johnson, grocery, gift, dinner, and fuel vouchers .
