Around 190 players from under eight to under 21 will travel from around the north west and north east regions to compete.
The local club will be represented by three of their most promising juniors, with Angela George and Daniel Helsdinger in the under 18 division, while Ben Butler plays in the under 14 competition. Butler and Helsdinger proved their worth recently, winning the under 14 and under 21 divisions respectively at the Moree JDS tournament on Sunday August 7.
The club is also gearing up for a Gold Tournament with around 200 players expected to take the local courts from Friday, September 16 to Monday, September 19.
Some Inverell Tennis Club members also competed in tournament in Forster and Sawtell recently.
Butler had a strong performance once again at the Sawtell Gold Tournament, held over the weekend of Friday, July 29 and Monday August 1 with his father Rowan Butler. Ben reached the quarter finals in the under 18s while Rowan finished as runner up in the consolation seaside singles.
During the Forster NSW Country Closed Championships, Ben won the 13 and under boys singles, 14 and under boys doubles and reached the semi finals in the 14 and under boys singles consolation.
Rowan was runner up along with Jeff Blanck in the special mens doubles. Blanck also reached the semi-finals of the special mixed doubles with Angela George, and the quarter finals of the AMT doubles.
George reached the semi finals of the 18 and under girls singles consolation. Warwick Hodkinson reached the quarter finals of the special men’s doubles and 18 and under boys singles consolation.
The Inverell Tennis Club would like to thank George Lowrey and his small group of volunteers, who have been turning up for the last few weekends to help prepare the clay courts for the upcoming tournaments.
The club is also looking for anyone who could assist in the kitchen during their tournaments. To volunteer, contact Kathy Helsdingen on 67 211 554.
