Armed with origami, balloon flowers and cupcakes, locals embraced the second annual Paint the Town Red last week, raising funds and awareness of cystic fibrosis in a number of unique ways.

Coffees were turned red for a day, lady beetles and superheros strolled the streets and local daycares read Charlie’s Smile, the story of toddler Charlie McGregor whose CF diagnosis spurred the fundraiser last year.
Funds are still coming in, but Saturday’s street stall made around $3000.
“We are stoked,” Charlie’s mother and PTTR organiser Abby Hooker said. Aiming to increase awareness of CF, Abby was thrilled to see the PTTR Facebook page reach 23,000 people throughout the week. She said many didn't realise that one in 25 carry the CF gene.
She said Inverell eased the burden for her entire family.
