Apart from just having fun, the main idea behind the run is to give everyone an achievable running goal through providing a range of distances from the challenging 9.2km run to Lake Inverell and return to the 2.5km run and walk.
The 9.2km course passes along the Macintyre River walking path, under the Tingha bridge and then climbs up behind Inverell East Bowling club through Northey Park and along the Highway to Lake Inverell Drive.
There is an easy downhill recovery to Lake Inverell followed by a climb back up to the highway and then an essentially downhill run back through Northey Park and home to Campbell Park.
The 4.6km run follows the same pathway, climbing up through the Park and then turning right at Clive St to the Northey Lookout turn around and back to Campbell Park.
The 4.6km race is an achievable run for most levels of fitness with some tough short climbs on the way out and a fast downhill to come home. Inverell East Rotary will be manning plenty of rest and water stations along the way if the going gets a little tough.
The 2.5km junior dash is the big one for our younger athletes. This runs from Campbell Park along the river walkway then veers left to the scout hall and back. In the past we have seen some of our younger runners fly through this race and the finish is always a flurry of activity!
The 2.5km event also gives the mums, dads and grandparents the chance to participate alongside their youngsters with the non-competitive walk proving to be very popular.
Inverell East Rotary donates the funds raised from this event to various Rotary Health Projects, and this year we are donating the money raised from the River Run to complete the purchase of a Beachwheels Wheelchair, which is an all-terrain wheelchair that gives those who have limited mobility the opportunity to be involved in water sports and outdoors activities.
Entries are available on the day and online: www.trybooking.com/MWJQ.
