So both were elected unopposed.
This time, however, Anthony Michael was elected for two years after the councillors agreed to the change proposed by new councillor Paul King.
I promise to undertake the duties as a councillor in the best interests of the Inverell people and the Inverell Shire Council.
- Councillors swore the Oath
All councillors took the oath watched by a public gallery of about 22 people. They were then allowed to take their allocated seats, four for the first time.
They were Kate Dight, Paul King, Neil McCosker and Stuart Berryman who has been a councillor in the past.
The meeting times of the council general meeting and committee meetings were set.
Council will continue to meet once a month on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 3pm.
The committee meetings will be on the second Wednesdays of the month.
New councillor, Neil McCosker, tried to get one meeting rolling into the next one so council would only meet once a month.
He was supported by Cr Mal Peters.
The issue was discussed and Cr Di Baker said she didn’t think councillors would be giving a peak performance if they made all their decisions on the one day.
She said the meetings were wearying and councillors needed to be clear-headed.
The current arrangements allowed for time between discussions and final decisions.
A majority agreed with her and then they worked out which committees they would join.
On a lighter note, the new councillors had trouble working out the light rules.
One is supposed to turn on a light in front of them to indicate they wish to speak. And then turn them off.
The meeting ended at 4.40pm when council moved into confidential committee.
