Despite statements from a Society spokesperson in August, which suggested that the store would open in a temporary pop-up location during renovations, the local committee have since decided against this action.
“The committee, which is made up of staff and members and volunteers locally, as well as regionally, and at the diocesan level, has decided that instead of finding temporary rental premises, fitting them and moving all stock, the Society will place its efforts into refitting the Oliver Street shop and centre as soon as possible,” executive officer of the Armidale Central Diocesan Council Sam Austrin-Miner said.
Mr Austrin-Miner said the committee had decided to prioritise the refurbishment of the Oliver Street location to ensure the building could be reopened as soon as possible.
“This way we will be able to look at ways of maximising the potential of our Oliver Street premises,” he said.
“A refit will enable us to increase the floor space dramatically and provide customers with a greater range of items with more price points. We will also be able to offer the people we assist new facilities and greater privacy.”
Mr Austrin-Miner said the Society appreciated the support and patience they had received from members of the public and volunteers as they worked to reopen the building.
