The White Rock Wind Farm is located between Inverell and Glen Innes, large enough to power up to 75,000 average NSW houses.
The shipment has eight complete Goldwind 2.5 MW wind turbine generators which are the biggest wind turbine blades to arrive in Australia to date. The 59.5m long blades were manufactured for Goldwind by Sinomatech Wind Power Blade Company.
Goldwind Australia Managing Director John Titchen said the wind turbine blades at White Rock Wind Farm will result in strong wind farm performance.
“Longer blades result in more energy being captured by the wind turbines,” he said. “Roads and foundations are now being prepared at the site ready for wind turbine installation.”
The blades and other turbine components will be stored temporarily at Newcastle Port and then transported more than 500km by road to White Rock Wind Farm by a specialist logistics company.
There will be 700 oversize loads of turbine components delivered from Newcastle, via the New England Highway to White Rock Wind Farm from late November, into 2017.
“We’ll be looking to celebrate the milestone of the first deliveries with the local community by holding a blade viewing event in Glen Innes in November,” Mr Titchen said. “We will be actively engaging with communities that are located alongside the haulage route in the lead up to the commencement of transportation of turbine components.
Northern Tablelands MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Renewable Energy Adam Marshall said it is an exciting day for Glen Innes. “It is not every day that Glen Innes makes Australian history,” he said.
“But today is the day because the largest wind turbines blades that have ever been in Australia have arrived and will be on their way to the area shortly.
‘This is so exciting, but what will be even more exciting is when these turbines come through town.”
