Johnson was a little disappointed with her third place in the javelin, and said despite perfect throwing conditions, all competitors were slightly off their game. Only 50-60cm off second place, she said “I guess you can take what you’ve got and practice more for next year”. She said it was still a great experience to meet and learn from other top javelin throwers.
Johnson is in with a shot for Nationals next year, if she moves up to second place.
Pentecost took home a gold in the 100m hurdles and silver in the 200m hurdles. Set for the National Juniors, he is hoping to repeat his successes from earlier this year when he won three golds and a silver in the hurdles and sprint.
Teacher Peter Burgess said the pair were “always striving to improve and always respectful of other competitors”.
“Both Chloe and River are always standout performers at our school carnivals, and it’s great to see them achieve these amazing achievement at the elite level of the competition,” he said.
