Inverell’s Jin Ryu Kan Martial Arts Organisation joined around 100 competitors, with some travelling from Newcastle, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
“They did amazing,” King said. Young Sam Dillon was a standout on the day after first winning his own 10-11 years kata division before taking on the 14-15 year olds, where he took home a third place.
King’s four-year-old son Samuel helped pump up the competitors with an exhibition fight, demonstrating how young the sport could be taken up. He was a proud father, with daughter Anya also winning her division.
King said the weekend was “all plusses, really,” and the influx of people was good for Inverell.
