Josh Ewen has had a long-held, epic tale of good against the perils of human failing that spawns evil, set in a futuristic world. The story has been constructed over years, and now the story is about to be told in cinematic form.

A crew of local residents has been acting out the story to tell Josh’s vision all week, filming Code Telmar: The Wrath of the Easterling.
“It’s going well,” Josh said as he sat among the costumed actors on set at Inverell TAFE, his tall, lanky frame clad in an innocuous, but somehow menacing dark suit.
Josh and friends who access BEST Connections disability services have been hard at work with production help from filmmakers Stephanie Marshall and Tim Dennis.
“I actually came up with the idea personally when I was younger, so it’s been a growing-up thing,” Josh said, who plays General Horatio Caine. “It’s a war story between good and evil, similar to Transformers, but it’s humanoid aliens bringing their war to Earth.”
He said inspiration came from playing Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, and, “it’s all sorts of forces battling it out to gain control,” he said. “There are those who want to destroy, and those who really want to protect.”
The film making project is part of the new Blue Sky Film Project, a follow-up from the 2014 Blue Grotto Film and creative workshop, performance and installation with Parramatta’s Alison Richardson and the Ruckus group, a team of artists and performers, who all have Down syndrome.
“The purpose behind Blue Grotto was to include as many people as we could who are living in with a disability in Inverell into a creative project – this time film making,” Stephanie said.
“These guys have led this project. Last time, it was very much Alison and Ruckus leading it – this time it’s their chance to lead it, so I guess it shows the progression that they’ve gone through. They are much more proactive, mush more confident, much more ambitious.”
The initiatives involve students at Ross Hill School and clients of Connections, Brighter Access and Individual Ability Supports.
Code Telmar: The Wrath of the Easterling, will screen at the Inverell RSM Club on Thursday, December 1 at 6pm. Admission is free and the community is invited to attend for the film and exhibition of all the Blue Sky projects.
