Organisers are expecting about 150 homes to register before 4pm on Wednesday, November 9 to get the service.
Lions secretary Bill Sutton said each year they picked up about the same amount of stuff.
“It makes you wonder where it all comes from,’’ he said.
The collection is available to all residents within the town limits.
Fridges, washing machines, dryers, televisions, VCRs, the list goes on.
“it used to all go to the recyclers but with the value of steel so low these days it’s not worth anything,’’ Bill said.
“It used to fetch $100 a tonne and now you’re lucky to get anything.
“It’s still worth collecting though. We treat it as our environmental project for the year. Lions clubs around the world commit to an environment project each year.
“Plus it helps to keep rates down.”
This year about 30 Lions will combine with volunteers from the Saphire City Car Club and an indoor cricket side to pick up the goods.
Council will shout them lunch at The Australia Hotel.
Any residents wishing to receive this service must register their collection details with council, by phoning the civil and environmental services department on 026728 8200.
Registration is compulsory so enough volunteers are organised.
Mention during registration if you will need help to move the gear out of your house. Otherwise, leave your stuff out the front.
Registrations close 4pm on Wednesday, November 9.
