“We’ve got fiction and non fiction, hard covers, soft covers, biographies, religious books, travel books - you name it, it’s down there,” said Inverell Lions Club president Peter Kearsey.
The group are co-hosting the sale with the Macintyre Lions from 8.30am-5pm at the old bearing centre 214 Byron Street from Friday to Sunday.
Most will cost just $2, along with a table of specials and a small number for tender including a selection from influential Australian author Ion Idriess.
“Some of those books are worth up to $1000,” Peter said.
Book lovers Bill and Margaret Bottom donated their time and expertise to help organise over six ton of books, donated by Tamworth Lions after their annual sale.
“I never realised there was so many categories of books,” Peter said.
“All we need now are buyers.”
A first for the clubs, the book sale will raise funds for the locally hosted Lions district convention later this year.
“We applied for the convention two years ago, and were fortunate to get it, because it also is the 100th anniversary of Lions International, which was started in Chicago in 1917,” Peter said.
“So it’ll be a special one.”
Around 200 members are expected to visit town, and will march down the main street with bearing their banners. The visitors will enjoy several days of banquets and tours, and stands will teach curious locals about Lions International.
