“A great sign of potential things to come for the season ahead,” Inverell Basketball Association president Tane Richards said.
He said Tamworth had confirmed their squad, 11 players split into a team of five and a team of six, and for the first time in the three years Inverell has hosted the games, the visitors will have American import Kyle Gupton with them to play against Inverell.
The first game at the Inverell basketball court at the showgrounds is scheduled for 2pm, with seven minute quarters, making six games in total in a round robin format. At 5.20pm, the Tamworth squads will play off, followed by the two with the Inverell teams.
Tane said Inverell's A team is a mix of impressive young talent, some slightly older talent, and import players from Glen Innes and Stanthorpe.
He said the B squad mixed old, young, local, imported and new. “A couple of older heads mixed with some younger school kids, who have shown great enthusiasm over the last 12 months plus,” he said.
“This is a great chance to get them some experience against a talented well drilled team. We'll end up with 10 on this squad hopefully to get those younger kids that experience.”
