Cooper Taveira is taking his paddock talents to Armidale on March 31 for a try-out session to make the North West rugby league under 11s team, and he gave a nervous smile when he talked about his feelings for the try-out.

“Good,” he grinned, and admitted he felt a few nerves. The 11-year-old Gum Flat student is in year 5, and he’ll be joined by some other boys from the Inverell district in Armidale.
Cooper said he has a few qualities which might get him across the line to make the zone team.
“Defense,” he said. “Really, I’ve just got to wrap my hands around them all, and put my head to the side, and tackle the legs,” he said.
“My speed is all right, a few of my positions are good.” He said he enjoys the game, with an emphasis on good sportsmanship.
“You feel good when you have a good tackle or you score a try or you do something good for the team, even if it’s bad, you should still have good teammates who say it’s all right.”
