Seven local artists will be taking their music to Germany as part of the Joeys OZ World Music Tour.
Jasmine Richter, Megan Longhurst, Mikaela Casey-Ransom, Tom Sanderson, Daniel Lowe and Josh Cunningham are keen to leave their mark in the 24 day trip. Coming from a diverse range of styles, head musician Chris Richter will have his work cut out for him leading the eclectic group.
“It will be a great opportunity for all of them musically,” he said. He’s been enjoying the challenge and mentoring the young artists.
The group have been polishing their act in venues across the region, and will lend their talents to a Beyond Blue fundraiser at the Imperial Hotel this Saturday night.
Organiser Heinrich Haussler said two successful years of entertaining visitors to the annual Joeys Mini World Cup sparked the tour.
“That’s where the idea was born - why not help the musicians and the talent of this local area to achieve, to get more experience, get themselves a name and go overseas, bring all that knowledge back?” he said.
The Joeys will join with German musician Patrick Neu and his 13 piece band for several of the tour performances. As unknowns in the country, Chris said Patrick’s collaboration will help the Inverell artists find their feet.
Heinrich’s ultimate dream for the Joeys musicians is to fill an entire soccer stadium with an audience eager to hear their tunes.
“We really hope this develops into something much, much bigger,” he said.
Planning has already begun for a local music festival in which overseas musicians are invited to perform in Inverell and aspiring artists improve their skills through a series of workshops. Heinrich hopes to see the event kick off in October next year.
“It just needs people who are open minded and people with vision to see what this could turn into,” he said.
Chris said the best way locals can support the group is by coming along to their gigs. He also encouraged non musicians to consider coming along to next year’s tour to help out.
