Tickets are already selling for the April 29 event, to be held at the Inverell Racecourse from 5pm.

It will be a combined sponsors night and fundraiser for Inverell Lions Club’s Kickstart for Sports project, purchasing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for local sporting venues.

The Jockey Club have supported Kickstart for Sports from day one, and gave the Lions one of their first donations last year.

“Defibrillators can save lives,” Jockey Club president Don Bartlett said.

“It was something that we reckoned that Inverell was missing.” 

After raising $26,000 over eight months, the Lions were ready to wrap up their project earlier this month, when Don asked them to wait for one more event.

Once AEDs are purchased for the town’s sporting venues, extra funds will go towards machines for the town hall and Inverell Tourism. The tourism centre will keep their AEDs available for hire for community events, such as the Jockey Club’s races.  

Fans of David and Brett will have the chance to bring home some Paramatta and Canterbury memorabilia in the charity auction. The pair will be meeting locals and signing autographs all night.

“They’re very accessible these fellas. Buy them a drink and they’ll tell you anything you want to hear,” Don said.

“They’ll probably even be selling raffle tickets.”

The raffle will be a mystery with all the prizes hidden in brown paper bags. 

Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased before the event. With a limit of 180, Don urged locals to get in quick. To organise payment, call 04 0340 3004.
