Playing striker for the match, Jackson Haussler said the team needed to work together behind the ball.
“We just have to run around and give them hell, make sure everyone is behind the ball, move fast and try to get a counter attack or a goal in and defend well if we do,” he said.
Haussler was confident the team could claim their first three points of the season after suffering a defeat against Tamworth in round two of the competition, 2-1, and forgoing their first round match owing to a washout.
“Looking at East Armidale's two results, they have lost both games,” he said.
“So, there is probably a good chance this weekend to get our first three points.”
Haussler will bring a wealth of experience to the team, laying claim to an eight-year stint in Germany and playing in the Queensland Premier League in 2016.
Heinrich Haussler, Jackson’s father and Joey’s stalwart, said the team is looking good ahead of the weekend’s clash. “We still have a lot of very young players, but we have a lot of (players) in the team to give them direction,” he said.
Haussler Snr described last year’s season as a learning curve for the team as veteran players made way for new blood, but said the team could only build from here.
“Every team will go through that. Last year was a learning curve for them, and I think they are much better for it already this year,” he said.
“Two of the players will go with me in June to Germany.
“They will bring a lot of knowledge home with them, and I think we can only build.”
Meanwhile, the younger Haussler had an eye on the competition, tipping Oxley Vale Attunga and North Armidale as the teams to beat in this year’s fixtures.
The match starts at 3pm after the reserve grade clash at 1pm.
