Members convened at Lake Inverell to measure in their catches for the club’s April competition and to lend their hand in restocking our waterways.
Parents and children were plentiful and eager to play their part in ensuring a strong fishing future for the community.
Club president Peter Black said that “close to 20,000 golden perch fingerlings were released into the Macintyre River all the way from Elsmore through to Red Rock”.
This initiative by the RSM Fishing Club has been running for many years and the effects are well and truly showing.
“The river has been fishing very well for some time now and I have no doubt that our restocking efforts have played a big part in that,” Mr Black said.
“It’s a great benefit for the community.”
Funds raised by the annual Kingfisher Invitational Fishing Competition, hosted by the fishing club, enable the restock to take place annually and a successful 2017 competition has ensured the initiative will take place next year.
The fishing club thanked all of the sponsors and participants who made the event a possibility. The success of this year’s event has further allowed the club to give back to the community, proving a $500 donation to the Inverell Prostrate Cancer Support Group.
