A chance for the town to thank those who go above and beyond, a strong crowd attended the Inverell Rotary Club Outstanding Service Awards dinner and presentation at the RSM Club on Thursday, April 27.

Four young locals, Emily Battle, Amanda Page, Jake Cracknell and Fumiyo Okamoto were presented as finalists for the trainee award. Emily, Amanda and Jake are all vocational training students working towards their primary industries Certificate 3 from Macintyre High School, while Fumiyo is a trainee kitchen assistant and beverage attendant employed at Freckles Café. Jake was declared the overall winner.
In the weekly award section, twelve finalists were presented. The overall winner was Ryan Kent from the RSM Club, a popular choice with a large contingent of work colleagues cheering him on.
The runners-up were Bev Lee Chue from ProActive Gym and Di Dewberry from Community Health. The other finalists were Andrea Parreau from Out the Back Café, Mitch Anderson from Laser Electrical, Vicki Berger from Millers, Brittany Chester from Dust Jacket, Angela Hallam from Kasper’s Embroidery, Gary Campbell from Liberty Junction Service Station, Hayley Oakenfull from ANZ Bank, Therese Dimmock-Noble from Dirt, Dig Design and Sue Shepherd from Landmark.
Ros Scoble from Inverell Breakfast Toastmasters gave an uplifting speech on multiculturalism and Meg Hanlon spoke on Rotary and why she joined after attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Award.
Sixteen businesses supported this event which enabled each finalist to receive a certificate and prize as well as their dinner. Rotary thanked to each business for their support, without which they said such events could not happen.
The club also thanked everyone who nominated an employee. There was a large number of nominations and this made judging the awards an enjoyable but sometimes difficult task. Rotary said it was clear that outstanding service to the community is alive and well in Inverell.
