Formed in the early 90s, the club boasted more than 300 competition entrants and countless fingerling releases, however due an array of unfortunate circumstances it has been forced to cease operations.
After the closure of the Oxford Hotel, it was noted that the fishing club’s finances were held by state revenue. As such, a meeting was held by the fishing club’s committee to discuss the deregistering of the club and the allocation of its finances.
It was here that the committee made the decision to contact the Department of State revenue to close all registrations involving the Oxford Fishing Club Inc.
As a result of the tireless work of the clubs members raising finances and contributing to the betterment of the community, the group retained a healthy financial status.
The committee saw it necessary to ensure that the clubs remaining finances were utilised for future community programs and as such, dispersed the existing funds evenly among the Inverell RSM and Royal Hotel Fishing Clubs.
Members of all three clubs convened at the Royal Hotel on April 27 to witness and accept the transfer of finances and discuss possible initiatives for the future.
