Eric Higgins was the winner with a very impressive 65 net. Four other players managed to score under their handicaps. Grade winners were A grade - Jai Tasker with 67, B grade - Matt Penberthy on 66 and C Grade - Kyle Chilcott 68. Place getters were Mal Dickson, Gary Hadland, Brian Fox, Steve Glover, Simon Smith, Mick Tanner and Tony Schutz all with scores of 70 and 71. Nearest the pin winner was Ross Chilcott.
New England week of golf started Monday May 8. The first event for the week, a 4BBB, was won by Elaine and John Archibald from Bargara, Queensland. They scored solid 44 points. Runner up pair was Brad Gibson of Armidale playing with local Ivan Dowsley. They were followed by two more locals Tim Newberry and John Tom and then Carmel and Peter Parry of Kew.
Best scores on day 2, a stableford event and first round of the New England Vets Week of Golf were Men’s Division 1, Paul Atkins (Wyong) with 41pts, Division 2, Graham Roberts (McLean) 32 points and Division 3 Tim Newberry (a local) 36 pts.
Ladies leading scores were Division 1 - Dianne Shadlow 38 pts, Division 2 - Carmel Parry (Port Macquarie) 33 pts.
The presentation for the two day stableford, the two individual stableford competitions and Fridays four-ball will take place during Fridays presentation dinner.
Local players should note that the new dates for Championships are 5th, 6th, 12th & 13th of August. Other dates to take note of are May 21 - Stoney Creek three-ball and May 28 - Inverell Open Four-ball.
