“It’s nice to share the stories and know that other people are sharing the same stories,” library worker Helen Elliot said.
Based off the popular nursery rhyme, the group sat enthralled as Ms Elliot told the tale of the cow’s many failed attempts to jump over the moon. The children giggled and answered questions throughout.
“Definitely if you get the kids participating in some way – whether telling you something about the story or making the noises or getting out the front, turning the pages – it just makes a huge difference,” Ms Elliot said.
Although Inverell was a little late for the official National Simultaneous Storytime event at 11am, the local group thoroughly embraced the theme, creating their own artwork of the popular nursery rhyme.
Blaire Cleal smiled as she showed off her bright blue cow set to be attached to a silvery moon, while Elroy Barnes kept his head down with intense concentration to create his own.
“It’s just so important before they get to school to get familiar with books and just turning pages and the words so when they learn to read they’ll know those skills already,” Ms Elliot said.
The local library hosts storytime sessions for ages 2-6 every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11.15am and baby bounce on Wednesdays at 10.30am.
