Nick walked the red carpet with an estimated 300 other film extras on Thursday ahead of a special cast screening on the Gold Coast.

He was pleased to see his appearance as a banker wasn’t edited out – although “if you don’t know exactly where you’re standing, nobody would ever see you”.

“I made it on screen for about three seconds, twice, and I thought, ‘Gee, for three weeks’ work, that’s a bit harsh’. Still, I’m waiting on a call from Quentin [Tarantino],” he said.

“If Quentin doesn’t call, well bugger ’em – they obviously don’t know really good talent when they see it.”

Nick said it had been great to catch up with the other extras, who’d been the highlight of his work on the set in 2015.

“I did think it was a bit funny how many people didn’t recognise each other out of costume,” he said.

Nick said the film was “a little bit too digitally enhanced for my liking” but that the film franchise’s star Johnny Depp had carried it really well.

“I think I’d only give it three stars. It’s a bit too out-there and surreal for me … I’m a traditional kind of pirate guy: some swashbuckling and ship-attacking kind of stuff.”

Nick said there were “bugger all celebrities there” but he did see who he called Johnny Depp’s double’s double.

“The whole thing has been a lot of fun, no doubt,” he said.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales finds Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) facing the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) and his band, bent on killing every pirate at sea.

The film is due to open at Inverell’s Majestic Cinemas on June 29.
