The driver was arrested at the scene and later charged with driving with the mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol.
Police allege the driver failed to give way to a taxi coming downhill at the corner of Urabatta Street and Bannockburn Road at 2.20am on Sunday, before crashing into a house.
Guy Stanborough is living in the house and said he felt incredibly lucky that nobody in his family was hurt.
He said that there had been people sitting in the lounge room earlier in the night.
“We were very lucky to have left the room when we did,” Mr Stanborough said.
The couple’s young daughter was woken by the noise and was extremely frightened by the incident, her father said.
Mr Stanborough said the damage to the house is severe with windows smashed and a 2-metre wide hole in the wall of the weatherboard structure.
The family and friends spent most of Sunday clearing the damage caused by the accident.
“I still don’t know how much this will cost to fix,” Mr Stanborough said.
The taxi driver was rushed to hospital after the accident with fears the crash may have exacerbated a previous injury to his back.
Police said both cars were damaged in the incident.
The taxi involved in the crash was owned Robert Stanborough, the tenant’s father.
Robert Stanborough was angered by the damage to his vehicle which he says will result in a loss of income.
The driver of the ute will front court in September.
