Works to connect over 5000 buildings begin in February next year, with most using either fibre to the node or fibre to the curb technology.

Joerg Gruenfeld argued that fibre to the node was a compromise and that the quality of copper wire on residents’ street would have a significant impact on speed.

Allan Miller agreed and said fibre to the node would “be an absolute waste of time,” while Geoff Smith said his fibre to the node connection as “a dog’s breakfast”.

“Armidale has fibre to the premises and it is VERY good... excellent,” Joerg said.

Heather Hottes said that she was happier to stay with her current set up.

“With all the complaints about it, and the fact that no organisation accepts responsibility for poor speed/service, I don't see why we should be forced to pay more money for a dud product,” Rosemarie Marsden said.

“We can stream 2x YouTube and 2 x Netflix at the same time,” Brent said.

“Fixed NBN wireless on the roof. We don't have a copper line. It is 500m away.”
