“She’s never had a cross word to say about anyone,” daughter Nancy Stewart said.
“She was always on for helping people and loved people, loved entertaining people.”
As an original founder and member of the Inverell Show Society Jumping and Dressage Club, and long-time supporter of the pony club, Betty adored horse sports. At 96-years, she continued to ride her pony Freckles right up until she fell ill in February.
Nancy remembered her mum as an energetic green thumb and horse lover who always went out of her way to give everyone an equal chance in the riding world. She raised four children – Richard, Michael, Austin and Nancy.
“We were a very happy family,” Nancy said.
“Betty was a very vivacious lovable lady who lived life to the full,” Jumping and Dressage Club co-ordinator Suzi Mills said.
She described Betty as a dedicated horsewoman, who was bubbly, outgoing and inspirational. She fondly remembered many group days and lessons held at Betty’s ‘Kilkeel’ Orchard Place property.
“She taught children to ride, she taught her grandchildren to ride and her great grandchildren to ride,” Suzi said.
“She’ll be very greatly missed by lots and lots and lots of people, not just our riding group.”
Betty’s funeral service will be held at St Augustine’s Anglican Church at 10am today.
