Grandparents and elders have always played a special role in the community, and they are being honoured through two special awards ahead of Grandparents Day on October 29. Local MP Adam Marshall has called for people across the Northern Tablelands to nominate standout elders in their community and thank them for their contribution and generosity.

“A nomination for these prestigious awards is just a small way of saying thank you, whether it’s to a grandparent or just to an elder that goes above and beyond for their family,” said Marshall.
The opening of this year’s award nominations coincides with the launch of an inaugural Grandparents Day Photography Competition being held in collaboration with the NSW Government and The Australian Centre for Photography.
“Taking a perfect picture of our elders will not only help share what they mean to you – but also capture memories of those moments forever.” Mr Marshall said.
Both initiatives aim to highlight the invaluable contribution of older people ahead of Grandparent’s Day on Sunday, 29 October. More details about the Grandparents Day Photography Competition are available at www.grandparentsday.nsw.gov.au , entries close on September 1, 2017.
To make a 2017 Grandparent of the Year Award nomination contact Mr Marshall’s Armidale office on 6772 5552 or northerntablelands@parliament.nsw.gov.au before September 8.
A state-wide award ceremony to announce the NSW Grandparent of the Year will be held at NSW Parliament House on 18 October. Winners from the photography competition will also be announced at this event.
