The New England Rural Crime Unit report they are investigating the theft of 30 merino ewes from the Elsmore area east of Inverell. The ewes are currently a month off lambing and were last shorn in October 2016.
According to police, the sheep were mustered and drenched in May with the entire mob accounted for. The mob was again mustered on July 23 and 30 ewes were discovered to be missing. Further mustering, checking of paddocks and inquires with neighbours have failed to locate any sign of the sheep.
The missing sheep are station bred and have an ear mark in the bottom of the offside ear being two vertical splits in the ear (see illustration). At the time of the theft the sheep were fitted NLIS tags NB330388
Police said this is the second lot of sheep to have been stolen this year from the property.
Investigators from the New England Rural Crime Unit are keen to speak with any person who may be able to assist with any information in relation to the missing sheep and/or any person who has been sighted acting suspiciously in or around Paradise Road at Elsmore.
