The boys were kept busy trying to keep possession in their first game against the North Coast at 11.30, but just missed out with a final score of 1-0 to the opposition. Gum Flat’s Jarrod White showed his strength in the goal, saving several hard fought goals in the second half.
The regional team hails from Gum Flat, Tamworth, Armidale and few places in between, and coach Darrel Mole from Tamworth South Public School is excited about their chances.
“They’re a smaller side than a lot of the other sides, but definitely skillwise they’ve got a lot going for them,” he said. Apart from Gum Flat goalie Jarrod White and Tamworth’s Max Watters, the players are all new to the North West side.
“The ball skills is probably their strength. If we can mark up and put the pressure on the teams, we’ve as good a chance as anybody,” Mole said.
Adam Davis is the youngest of the team, in year four at school.
“If he continues with his skill level, he’s got a couple of years ahead of him yet,” Mole said.
