Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said the Grandparents Day Events Grant program enables organisations to host events focused on appreciating and connecting older people with their community, regardless of their age or ability.
Inverell Shire Council will receive $5,775 for its celebrations, which will culminate in a ‘Mad Hatters’ High Tea in the Inverell Town Hall.
“Event preparations will be a collaboration between grandparents and school students, including catering, decorations and entertainment,” Mr Marshall said.
“This free event will attract more than 400 people and include circus performers, art show and live music.”
Mr Marshall said Gilgai Public School’s P&C Association will use their $850 grant to host a lunch event on the school grounds. Grandparents will be invited to attend and given a tour around the school.
Grandparents Day events will be held between October 15 and November 12, 2017.
