The community is invited to Victoria Park from 10am to 1pm on Thursday, September 14 for a day of fun, festivities and mental health tips. RUOK Day encourages locals to consider how an honest conversation can help save the life of someone struggling with mental illness.
Kicking off at 10am with a welcome to country, there will be drumbeat circles to keep the energy high throughout, dance performances and the screening of community video clips. Mental health advocate Greg Strong will be the guest speaker at 10.30.
Peter Caddey will be the emcee, and a free morning tea will be available.
Anyone keen to do their part to reach out to friends, family or colleagues can come along at 11.30am to pick up mental health tips on how to ask someone if they’re ok, and what to do if they say no.
Coming from a variety of local services, the RUOK Day committee are working hard to make the event a memorable one, and to help locals open up about mental health.
For anyone keen to learn more about mental health and suicide prevention, Ross Hill Public will host a free information night on Wednesday from 6-9pm. This follows a series of mental health/fitness workshops in local schools.
