Following 70 Local and Regional competition days, it all comes down to 40 teams representing 36 schools who are in the race of the 2017 Champions title.
The week will begin with the Years 5/6 Mixed division who will take to the courts on Tuesday, Tuesday September 19, before the Years 7/8 and Years 9/10 divisions (both Girls and Boys) continue on Wednesday September 20.
Since being introduced in 2013, the Schools cup competition has grown from 3,000 inaugural participants to more than 10,000 students taking part this year – evidence of its growing popularity amongst the wider NSW sporting landscape.
Of the 40 State finalists, just 12 are making a return visit to the title deciders – including 2016 Years 7/8 Boys Champions, Cape Byron Steiner School.
Netball NSW General Manager – Sports Development Nikki Horton says there is an air of excitement about the days ahead.
“After months of exciting competition across New South Wales, it all comes down to this – the 2017 Schools Cup State Finals,” Horton said.
“It’s been another fantastic year for our Schools Cup competition, in which we introduced a new age group (Years 9/10) and also saw record number of participants. The continued growth and excitement around Schools Cup is further proof of its popularity amongst NSW Schools, and as such is becoming a more integral step as part of our Pathways.
“It’s also wonderful to see for the first time ever a team representing each region in the Boys divisions. While we are very proud that Netball is predominantly a female participated sport, it’s also really encouraging to see the boys take it up and hopefully it gives them the confidence to play it on a more regular basis.
“On behalf of Netball NSW, I’d like to wish all our State Finalists good luck for the next couple days. We’re looking forward to seeing some great netball played, and to crown our 2017 Champions. I’d also like to thank all the teachers, principals and officials for their support in the competition.”
Netball NSW would like to thank our major partner First National Real Estate for their support of the 2017 Schools Cup competition.
