Inverell Home Support Program organises luncheon for local carers

Sixteen local carers were recognised for the many hours of caring and support they give to others with a special luncheon held at Blair Athol on Monday.

The event was organised by the Inverell Home Support Program ahead of National Carer’s Week scheduled for October 15 to 21.

There are more than 2.7 million family and friend carers in Australia providing 36 million hours of care and support every week to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, drug and/or alcohol dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail.

The value of their unpaid labour is estimated to be $1.1 billion every week.
