The new product was launched in Walcha on October 13, when 100 sheep were herded through the town’s streets.
Residents and farmers took part and enjoyed a barbecue afterwards at the Walcha Showgrounds and the gold coin donations for lunch were given to the local show society.
According to Virbac, the product Tridectin was a new class of combination drench.
Walcha was chosen for the product launch as the area is expected to have a strong customer base in Walcha and the wider New England region where sheep worms and worm resistance is high and constitute an ongoing challenge for producers.
Sheep product manager at Virbac Australia Terrance Loughlin said Tridectin was the only broad-spectrum combination drench with a registered claim to kill triple-resistant and monepantel-resistant worms.
“The advanced patented formulation combines potent chemistry with the latest technology, providing a reliable, safe and effective solution against all the major worm species especially barber’s pole worm, small brown stomach worm, and black scour worm,” Mr Loughlin said.
He said the event was targeted at local sheep producers to improve their knowledge and understanding of Tridectin’s three powerful actives which are designed to kill worms fast.
“The Walcha district is known for its ability to produce high quality sheep and we were thrilled to hold the launch event here,” Mr Loughlin said.
“Tridectin’s arrival is perfectly timed to assist sheep producers in this region in clearing their stock of worms prior to the hot summer conditions.”
He explained the drench contains Moxidectin, Albendazole and Levamisole.
“To incorporate moxidectin in the drench, Tridectin uses a patented micellar technology to improve stability and absorption,” Mr Loughlin said.
“It means moxidectin stays stable for longer and is more efficacious than an on-farm mix of the same actives.”
