Trained at Narrabri by Jarred Hetherington the former Victorian pacer is raced by Inverell identities Dave Stewart and Ian Campbell.

“He had to do it the hard way,” Hetherington said after the six-year-old gelding’s win. 

“I have had him for a month now and he just keeps improving.”

“We will see where he takes us.”

The Greg Coney trained and driven Our Princeoftides led the field, with Vincent Van Oro placing the pressure on whilst racing out in the breeze.

With Stacey Weidemann handling the reigns, he commenced his home run up the back straight on the final occasion before coming away with a 9.6m win over Jax Tellar (Courtney Sutherland) with Miss Catalina (Julie Weidemann) 7.3m away third.

“He put a bit of a gap on the field and he was happy to carry on that way,” Hetherington said.

“And Stacey was impressed as he didn’t really get out of second gear.”

“I love going to Inverell to race,” he added.

“His owners come from Inverell as well so that was a bonus”

For Stacey Weidemann it was the first time she had partnered Vincent Van Oro.

“I kept kidding him along that he was a “macho man” and he pulled it off,” she said.  

“It’s nice to drive a winner and it is good to see Jarred get a winner as well – he tries hard and takes it to heart so good on him.”
