The North West Film Festival is a festival for young people from across the North West, interested and actively engaged in creative digital and analogue screen media.
The Festival provides young people with the unique opportunity to showcase their work, assess the work of their peers, work with industry professionals and celebrate their achievements.
Held over two days and nights, the Festival offers a series of workshops, practical exercises, panel sessions, short film screenings and Q + A sessions, many of which are also open to the general public.
The Festival Awards to be held on Friday, November 16, recognize excellence in filmmaking across a range of categories.
The Awards are judged by industry professionals who provide invaluable feedback about the work submitted.
A highlight of the Festival this year will be the participation of the acclaimed Australian director Bruce Beresford.
Festival Director, Sandy McNaughton is thrilled that Beresford is able to attend. “Bruce Beresford is undoubtedly one of Australia’s greatest living directors in demand across the globe. He divides his time between London, LA and Australia, so it is a great coup for us that he has taken time out to come to Inverell,” she said.
Bruce Beresford’s ground-breaking career spans more than 50 years and includes over 30 feature films.
Many of these have entered the Australian canon, including The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, Don’s Party, The Getting of Wisdom, Breaker Morant, The Fringe Dwellers, Paradise Road and Mao’s Last Dancer.
Beresford is the only Australian director to win an Academy Award for Best Picture.
Beresford will be presenting at the Festival Awards on Friday evening, as well as delivering workshops and participating in panel and Q + A sessions during the day on Saturday. In the evening, the public is invited to hear Beresford reflect on his extraordinary career in the presentation of Masterclass: An Evening with Bruce Beresford at the Inverell Town Hall at 7pm.
This will include a 45 minute conversation where he will discuss his 50-year journey in cinema.
Bookings are essential and tickets are available at Eventbrite. The North West Film Festival is grateful to the generous sponsorship of the Yulgilbar Foundation in ensuring that the event is able to take place this year and in enabling free admission to all Festival events.
