Group 19 has already granted permission for the Hawks to host the games of under 18’s and seniors at the Inverell High School oval on the Saturday afternoon
Hawks president Darrel Kachel said that following discussions with Gunnedah president Ray McCoy it was agreed that it would become an annual event.
A Challenge Cup has been acquired and will be held by the winning club in the senior division for that year.
Kachel indicated with the confirmation of the trial match he expects training will intensify.
Coaches will no doubt up the fitness program and as the games draw closer match skills and ball handling will be introduced.
Kachel said any junior or senior player that wishes to participate in the trials must be registered with the club prior to the event. Sign-ons can take place at the top fields of the sports complex at training afternoons Tuesday and Thursday.
A Grade coach Alex McCosker said he was looking forward to the trial as it would enable him and his coaching staff to have a look at some new signings this season.
He also indicated that it would be a good hit out leading into the representative selection trials to be played at Glen Innes on March 23.
He said it was interesting to note that Group 19 management has introduced the granting of two competition points to each club that enters a side in the trials.
McCosker added that this was a good idea as it would give all those that enter points as well as the opportunity to play another game before the competition commences.
Also following the Saturday trials at Glen Innes the under 18’s and, for the first time, ladies league tag selection games will be played at Varley Oval on Sunday, March 24.
