A New England University student from Inverell is among Australia’s 39 winners of the prestigious Rural Pharmacy Scholarship.

Daniel Appleby is set to receive $40,000, divided equally into annual installments, over the remaining three years of his degree.
“I’m studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours,” the 19-year-old said.
Currently in his second year of the course, Mr Appleby began university last year after finishing at MacIntyre High School in 2015.
His career choice stems from a desire to help people coupled with a positive work experience placement during high school.
“I did work experience in a pharmacy in Inverell. I liked it so much that I decided it was what I wanted to do,” he said.
As well as financial assistance, the scholarship will offer Mr Appleby the opportunity to participate in a mentor program aimed at reinforcing his ties to rural and regional Australia.
The Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme 2017 aims to encourage students from rural and remote communities to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at university.
It is a Rural Pharmacy Workforce Programme initiative, established in recognition of the key role pharmacists play in maintaining the health of all Australians, particularly those in rural and remote areas.
