More residents are being urged to sign-up to Life Education’s annual fundraising initiative and lose the booze for Aussie kids.
Life Education and its much-loved giraffe, Healthy Harold visit almost 2000 NSW schools each year, teaching more than 280,000 children the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition and physical activity as well as building children’s resilience and knowledge around smoking, alcohol and drugs.
Supporting this year’s key message: Lose the Booze for Aussie Kids is 2017, Ocsober encourages people to give up alcohol for the month of October.
“One month seems a lot for some people but for me it's not about missing out it's about living a healthier lifestyle and providing the younger generation with the knowledge so they can make good choices,” Ocsober Ambassador and Olympic Rugby sevens champion Sharni Williams said.
This year, Life Education is asking residents to sign up to Ocsober and help them raise $500,000, which will support the charity’s preventative health education programs.
Raising just $67 provides student workbooks for a small school in regional or remote Australia, $246 will help 24 disadvantaged children to stay safe and healthy, and $588 will support Life Education to deliver health and drug education to a small school in regional Australia for one whole year.
As the danger around binge drinking and alcohol abuse increases, it is important to play a role in educating the next generation.
And lead by example.
Enjoy other health benefits from a month off the booze including feeling healthier and fitter, weight loss and the chance to set a great example to young Aussies.
Life Education, as the largest non-government provider of health education to children in Australia, has been a valued partner of Australian schools for 37 years.
We have over 100 mobile classrooms and qualified educators across the country and reach over 700,000 children nationally every year.
In the past 37 years, more than 7 million students have participated in the Life Education program.
