The 53-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is facing several charges and was due to appear in Inverell Local Court on Thursday.
A visiting magistrate adjourned the case to allow the DPP and a barrister to attend.
The man made no application for bail during the brief mention of the case and it was formally refused.
The man was arrested in Inverell on September 27. Police allege he sexually abused two girls who were known to him when they were aged between five and nine.
Tamworth-based officers from the Child Abuse Squad launched an investigation into the historical allegations earlier this year, culminating in the arrest, before the man was refused bail in court.
At that time, a spokesperson for NSW Police said investigations were continuing following the arrest.
