Kicking off with a morning tea, the school’s 57 students then combined to present a variety show with music, singing, poetry readings and dancing.
Luncheon followed with Gilgai’s P&C association hosting a free sausage sizzle made possible by a small state government grant for the event.
Those funds also went into engaging a photographer who took portraits of the children with their grandparents to keep as lasting memories of the day.
“It was a really big day,” relieving principal Lachlan Stewart said adding that some grandparents also stayed on to tour the classrooms and play with the kids.
