Staggy Creek, the previously undefeated side had their colours lowered by the consistent Square & Compass team. Staggy won the toss and accumulated 174 for nine down in their allotted forty overs. Matt Sparke led their scorers with 71 while John Krauss added 26 to the total. Ben Horneman 2-28 and Alex Livingston 2-32 were the chief wicket takers for Sq. & C. The Staggy total was considered healthy, however the mindset of Sq & C was positive to run down the total and take first innings points. Harry Moses led the way with a strong 58 and good support from Eric Higgins with 30 and Joe Smith on 36 not out saw their innings successful to finish with 7-175.
Mick Kenny was Staggys’ best trundler with 3-27 while Elijah Wynter-Kenny took 2-20.
Over at Varley Oval Campbell & Freebairn celebrated a rare win of the toss and chose to bat first. Todd Hughes drew first blood for RSM and snared the first two wickets. At 3-48 C & F required a partnership and this turned into reality when Jarrod Uebergang and Jack Cole denied all bowlers and added a majestic 163 runs for the fourth wicket.Jarrod made 89 while Cole finished with 81. The Rebels closed their forty overs at 6-221 and placed RSM with an imposing question with a good two hundred in the book.
Nathan Marsh claimed the first three wickets and with RSM reeling at 4-20 it appeared likely an early finish was on the cards. Stubborn resistance from Jack Stafford 26 and Jake House also 26, followed a breezy 28 from Scott Leonard. RSM were finally all out for 157 in an entertaining game. Jarrod Uebergang completed a fine match to take 3-16 and Marsh finished with 3-25.
An improved showing in B Grade from Tingha caused a boilover of some proportions when Empire Warriors went down on the first innings. The Warriors were all out for 107, no batting details to hand. Best bowling for Tingha was Kyle Krauss 3-19 and GT Livermore jnr chipped in with 3-25. A successful run chase saw Mitchell Green 37 and George McMullen 29 not out steer their side to a deserved victory with Tingha finishing at 5-114.
An unconfirmed report in the other B Grade encounter mentions Staggy Creek defeating Invincibles.
