The campaign challenges Australians to share great books with children.
Youth Services Officer Leanne Schuhmacher noted that there are many families in Inverell who are already supporting their children’s future by reading to them every day.
“During 2017, we had 65 children complete at least one badge in our Little Gems Program. Each badge is achieved after 110 books are read, and in total we presented 125 badges, representing over 11,000 books shared with the children involved,” she said.
Sonya Lange, Manager Library Services is taking the pledge.
“I will be reading to my two-year-old nephew on Christmas Day – I always give him books for special occasions,” she said.
“I know how much joy reading has given me during my life, and I want to share that joy with my loved ones.”

To take the pledge, use #Storytimepledge on Twitter, and pop into the library to grab some books – there are thousands of titles to choose from.
“Behind every great scientist is a library of inspirational books, and an adult who introduced them,” Dr Finkel said at the launch of this year’s Storytime Pledge campaign.
“We can all help our children to pick up the pen on the future, by hooking them on reading today,” he added.
The Inverell Library’s regular Storytime and Baby Bounce sessions recommence on February 8. The sessions are free, and no bookings are required.
To keep your children reading over the holidays, library staff recommend the Summer Reading Challenge, with packs available to collect from the library. The challenge is a national program, and there are some great prizes to be won.
