After riding his second treble of his injury-plagued career, Danny Edmonds didn’t talk about his road back from injury, or how great it was to be back in the saddle at first.

No, he wanted to thank the Inverell trainers that had given him a chance.
“What meant the most was it was for three local trainers,” Edmonds, who originally hails from Rooty Hill, said of his three wins on Boxing Day at the Inverell Racecourse.
“Todd Payne and Wayne Oakenfull have been nothing but supportive since I got here.
“They’re good blokes, the type that’d take the shirt off their own back for you.”
It was Edmonds’ first treble since returning from a horror run with injury that saw him on the sidelines for over two years.
Edmonds had broken his leg riding trackwork in Sydney and just as he was nearing a return, the hoop was kicked in the head by a horse which caused balance and coordination problems.
However, Edmonds – who did his apprenticeship in Hawkesbury – returned in October this year before producing one of his greatest days in the saddle on Tuesday.
Along with the treble – which produced wins for Payne, Oakenfull and Scott Dixon – the 30-year-old bagged a pair of second places.
Edmonds now wants to repay the faith to another big supporter – his cousin, Inverell trainer Shane Edmonds.
Danny will be one of two jockeys – along with Luke Cumberland – riding horses of Shane’s who is striving for his third straight Inverell Cup on New Year’s Day.
“I’ve got six rides already. They’re real nice rides, too, and I’m very excited to be on Shane’s horse Mishani Honcho,” Danny said.
“He’s a very nice horse. He just needs to hit his straps and Shane thinks he’s got him right. It’d be a dream come true if I’m able to win on his horse.”
The Inverell Cup meeting on January 1 is a nine-race card. The first race of the day is set to jump at 12.44pm.
The $35,000 XXXX Gold Inverell Cup starts at 4.56pm while the ninth and final race on the card at 5.31pm.
