I was born in... Scotland in 1974, Grew up in Bishopbriggs in the North side of Glasgow, so a true Glaswegian, it will always be home for me
I came to Australia because... of work in June 2010. I got full sponsorship so migrated out to give Australia a go, have not looked back since, moved initially to Perth - WA which was home for 6 years, now NSW is. At that time, I came out with my wife Sharon and my 2 boys who were only 6 months old and 18 months at that point, they are still over in Perth.
What I miss most from home is... a winter Christmas and the lush green scenery, and that it does not really get dark in the summer, one thing I don’t miss is the rain.
What I love most about Inverell is... that it feels so much like home (Scotland). I love that there are so many Scottish named places, towns, and streets around along with the Celtic connection, it’s the only place outside Scotland that I feel as if I am back home. The people are so friendly too, along with everyone I talk to, talks so dearly and passionately about Scotland and the people
What can the rest of the world learn from the people of Inverell? That no matter where you’re from, the local people and the community are always welcoming and will make you feel at home.
The biggest surprise about living here is... Despite everyone talking passionately about Scotland and the people, along with having Scottish relatives somewhere everyone at first struggles with my accent, which I find funny.
When friends come to visit, I take them to... I have not had anyone come to stay yet, however my 2 boys are due to come over and stay for a week with me (Zachary 8 and Charlie 7) so planning taking them out to see my work along with up to Macintyre falls,
In my free time, I…. That’s a hard one as I am kind of a workaholic. I enjoy going out for a run, or out on my mountain bike, I also love chilling out with friends but love music along with going to the beach, when I get the chance
Something most people don't know about me is... That’s a hard question to answer as there is so much, as I have worked all over the world including conflict zones However, I have more Houston relatives in Australia that I have back in Scotland that I have never met, this came around as my Dad came from a family of nine siblings, so when the war finished everyone born before the war migrated out to Australia.
