“Everybody swam pretty good times,” swim club board member Troy Brabant said.
Inverell filled the podium in the nine years girl categories, with Isabel Irwin, Eliza McNamara and Casey Brabant taking home the gold, silver and bronze respectively – in both the 50 metre breaststroke and backstroke.
After months of hard work, Sophie Mijic finally reached the times she’d been striving for in the 50 metres and 200 metres freestyle, qualifying to compete in the country championships in Sydney next month. She also took home the 50 metres freestyle dash for cash in the 11-13 years category.
Emma Brabant won the 10 and under dash for cash 50 metres freestyle.
“I’m pretty sure nearly every kid came away with some sort of medal from one event on the weekend,” Troy said.
“Kootingal is always a really good little carnival.” He said that although competition could be high, with swimmers from the Hunter Valley, Port Macquarie, Bathurst and nearly every town in the New England North West region attending, Inverell always had a strong result in Kootingal.
The second carnival of the year, local competitors faced down cold winds to come away with several successes on the day.
The Inverell club is gearing up for a busy part of the season, with area championships pitting the top swimmers in our region against one another in four weeks time. Competitors will be looking to qualify for speedo sprints, with top four in the 50 metre events eligible to compete in Sydney.
The country championships will follow in February.
