Police, firefighters and the ambulance service gathered to free a toddler, aged under two years of age, whose head was caught between the rails of the park’s gate.
Fire and Rescue New South Wales arrived at the scene five minutes after the incident occurred. They used spreaders to spring the rails and free the child.
“We’ve had other incidents like this with animals, but never with a child,” says Captain Robbie Wighton, head of the Fire and Rescue service at Inverell.
Frank Fleming, president of the Inverell Rescue Squad (VRA), arrived shortly after the other services and gave assistance along with Deputy Captain Jeff Cowley from Fire and Rescue.
Thankfully, the ordeal lasted for under quarter of an hour for the young boy.
“It was just a freak accident,” says Mr Fleming.
The Inverell Rescue Squad is a group of volunteers who are alerted by emergency services to assist in situations where people and animals are trapped. Fire and Rescue Inverell are retained firefighters called in emergency situations.
