The start of work came as an anti-climax to the town after all the controversy surrounding the Town Centre Renewal Plan that was supposed to have started on January 29. The works, on the table since 2014, were delayed after a request from the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
The delay had come to the delight of many residents that are opposed to the plan, fearing that it will diminish the beauty of the town and lead to unnecessary spending on the part of the Inverell Shire Council.
