To address the issue, the Inverell Linking Together Centre has been supporting people sleeping rough or couch surfing while trying to regain their independence. Thanks to a $750 StreetSmart Australia grant, they now have capacity to provide toiletries and sanitary supplies to those without resources to maintain their dignity as they restructure their lives.
The Centre can offer free shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, razors, women’s sanitary supplies, pre-packed knapsacks for those sleeping rough, sleeping bags and assorted necessities for those in strife.
Linking Together Centre programs manager Luke Thom was appreciative he and the Centre staff now have the capacity to provide items to relieve some of the stress people can feel when they are struggling.
“The grant will provide people that are homeless or couch surfing to access personal items that they could not afford due to having no money or no way to acquire those items,” Luke said.
The Linking Together staff will keep an eye out for people in need, but if you or somebody you know may need assistance, they may stop in to the Centre at 16 Waratah Avenue, Inverell or phone 6722 3444.
