“It’s very exciting. We’re thrilled to have such an international star who’s willing to come to Inverell,” secretary Barbara Wigg.
“He’s a very experienced singer and he’s sung in opera houses all over the world.”
Joining forces with classical guitarists Andrew Blanch and Ariel Nurhadi to form the José Carbó Trio, Mr Carbó will perform at the Inverell Town Hall on Saturday, March 3 from 7.30pm.
Their recital, The Exquisite Hour, is named after a work by the composer Reynaldo Hahn. It will feature music by Schubert, Faure, Verdi and many others, and has been arranged for voice and two guitars.
Mr Carbó was born in Argentina, of Spanish and Italian descent, but moved to Australia with his family at an early age.
He produced a CD ‘My Latin Heart’ which was nominated for the ARIA classical record of the year. In 2009 he made his operatic debut at La Scala in Milan, Italy and in 2011 sang in the opera Figaro in Seattle.
He has also performed in opera houses in Madrid and at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He has sung many roles for Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House.
Mr Blanch is considered to be one of Australia’s leading young guitarists. In 2017 he made his solo debut at the Sydney Opera House and now his career is taking him to many countries.
Mr Nurhadi was born in Melbourne and is now a Sydney-based guitarist. He has regularly performed with Mr Blanch, and the pair will play guitar duets during the local concert.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students, available through Tourism Inverell.
